The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) recognised Internet Governance as one of the core issues on its agenda. WSIS commended existing institutions for their work, but called for “enhanced cooperation” among all organisations to develop public policy principles. It also gave the United Nations Secretary-General a mandate to convene a new space for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue - the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). Open consultations on the convening of this Forum will take place in Geneva on 16 and 17 February to discuss its nature and structure as well as its substantive priorities. This presentation will focus on this process and other issues affecting the future of Internet Governance.
