The second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society closed in Tunis on 18 November 2005. ISOC and the Internet community participated throughout the WSIS process. In the area of Internet Governance, ISOC commended the WSIS for moving beyond the details of technical administration and on to broader issues that require increased coordination by all stakeholders and more specifically to those issues that will help bring the Internet to the billions of people not yet connected. ISOC believes that the WSIS Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that is in formation can play a valuable role in this regard through a continued commitment to multi-stakeholder and open and transparent working methods, and a focus on cross-cutting issues not adequately addressed by current governance mechanisms.
